ST.PAUL, MN (01/27/2015)(readMedia)-- University of Northwestern – St. Paul (UNW) is pleased to announce that newly appointed Artist-in-Residence faculty member Dr. Paul Wirth will present a Pre-college Piano Master Class:
Pre-college piano students who wish to perform at this Master Class and receive coaching by Wirth must submit an audition video link (YouTube or Dropbox) by February 9 at music@unwsp.edu. Submitted auditions must include contact information (name, e-mail and phone); performers selected for the class will be notified by Feb. 16. There is no audition fee.
Paul Wirth, D.M., is a sought-after pianist and teacher for concerts, master classes, lectures and other events across the region and nation. Named Thursday Musical Teacher of the Year in 2004–05, he has taught numerous first prize-winning students of regional, national and international competitions, with 30 of his pre-college students having performed over 70 solo performances with orchestra, including the Minnesota Orchestra and The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Drawing on 30 years as a pre-college specialist teaching advanced concepts to 4–18 year olds, he has given presentations and master classes at such prestigious venues as 2007 National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy and the Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory Division. Wirth co-founded and is the Artistic Director of the Wirth Center for the Performing Arts in St. Cloud, MN.
Wirth has served as a guest instructor at the UNW Piano Institute each summer since 2008. In his new role as faculty Artist-in-Residence, he joins Artists-in-Residence Roger Frisch, violinist and associate concertmaster of the Minnesota Orchestra, and Michele Frisch, principal flute of the Minnesota Opera and VocalEssence.
