ALBANY, NY (02/18/2014)(readMedia)-- UP IN THE AIR (United States, 2009, 109 minutes, color, directed by Jason Reitman) will be shown on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue, on the University at Albany's downtown campus. The screening is sponsored by the New York State Writers Institute as part of its Classic Film Series and is free and open to the public.

George Clooney portrays a corporate downsizing expert who travels around the globe restructuring companies and firing people in this acclaimed adaptation of the 2001 novel by Walter Kirn. The film received over 70 award nominations, winning Golden Globe awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actor for George Clooney, and the American Film Institute's Movie of the Year.

The film is being screened in advance of an appearance at the Writers Institute by Walter Kirn on Tuesday, March 25th. Kirn will hold an informal seminar at 4:15 p.m. in the Assembly Hall, Campus Center, on UAlbany's uptown campus, and will read from and discuss his new nonfiction book Blood Will Out: The True Story of a Murder, a Mystery, and a Masquerade, at 8 p.m. in the Recital Hall, Performing Arts Center, also on UAlbany's uptown campus.
