Author, UAlbany professor, and social justice activist Virginia Eubanks author, UAlbany professor, and social justice activist, will discuss her book, Automating Inequality: How High-Tech Tools Profile, Police and Punish the Poor (2018), at 7 p.m. Friday, October 19, at the University Club of Albany, 141 Washington Avenue, Albany.

Eubanks is an asssociate professor of political science and women's studies. Automating Inequality, a revelatory investigation of the impacts of data mining, policy algorithms, and predictive risk models on working class people, won praise from The New York Times Book Review: "Riveting (an accomplishment for a book on technology and policy). Its argument should be widely circulated, to poor people, social service workers and policymakers, but also throughout the professional classes. Everyone needs to understand that technology is no substitute for justice."
