Film "Yellow Sky" to be screened March 27, 2015

ALBANY, NY (03/13/2015)(readMedia)-- YELLOW SKY (United States, 1948, 98 minutes, b/w, directed by William A. Wellman) will be shown on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue, on the University at Albany's downtown campus. Sponsored by the New York State Writers Institute as part of its "William A. Wellman Film Festival," the screening is free and open to the public.

In this highly original Western shot in Death Valley, a prospector and his tomboy daughter attempt to protect their secret gold mine when six fugitive bank robbers appear on the scene. The film stars Gregory Peck, Anne Baxter, and Richard Widmark. Lamar Trotti won a Writers Guild award for the screenplay, which was inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest.

YELLOW SKY is the fourth screening in the "William A. Wellman Film Festival," which is featuring five films by the legendary Hollywood director, and an appearance by his son, William Wellman, Jr. The final screening in the series will be the silent WINGS (1927), presented with live musical accompaniment, on April 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue, on the University at Albany downtown campus. On Friday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Page Hall, the director's son, William Wellman, Jr. will discuss Wild Bill Wellman: Hollywood Rebel (2015), his monumental new biography of his father.
