CLIVE, IA (09/28/2011)(readMedia)-- The Iowa Association of Realtors® (IAR) announced Mike Romig of Mason City as the 2011 Realtor® of the Year. The IAR presented the award Sept. 14 at its Annual Convention in West Des Moines.
Romig has been a full-time professional Realtor® since 1987, specializing in residential and new home construction. He is currently an agent at Heartland Realtors® in Mason City.
Romig has been a leader in the Iowa Association of Realtors®, as well as his local board, the Greater Mason City Board of Realtors®, for many years, says Kurt Schade, president of the IAR. "Mike Romig is a true grit nice man. He is dedicated to family, his faith and our profession. We are so lucky to have Mike as a Realtor® and friend. He epitomizes a person deserving of being named Realtor® of the year," shares Schade.
Romig served as president of the IAR in 2008, and was also inducted into the Omega Tau Rho service fraternity in 2008. He has been a member of the Realtor® Foundation of Iowa, a Realtors® Political Action Committee trustee and an IAR regional vice president. He has also served on multiple IAR committees and task forces, including the Executive Committee, Legislative Committee, Board of Directors, Public Policy Committee, Nominating Committee and others. He was president of the Greater Mason City Board of Realtors® in 2000-2001, and has been a five-year board director.
Romig was recently selected to serve as the National Association of Realtors® (NAR) Federal Political Coordinator for Senator Tom Harkin, and has been Iowa's representative on the NAR-Realtors® Relief Foundation.
Romig has continually devoted a great deal of time and energy to his community as well. He has been the Mayor of Manly for 10 years and was also a City Council member for two years. He is very active in his local parish, currently serving as Pastoral Coordinator. He also served as chair of the Newman Catholic Schools Board of Education for three years and as a member for five years.
"I am grateful for the many years I have been able to serve the Realtors® of my local board in Mason City and Realtors® throughout the state of Iowa," says Romig. "As I reflect on the IAR members who have received this award before me, I am deeply humbled to be considered as their peer."
