CLIVE, IA (11/02/2011)(readMedia)-- The Iowa Association of Realtors® (IAR) presented the 2011 Fair Housing Recognition Award to the Iowa Great Lakes Board of Realtors®. IAR made the presentation at its Annual Awards Luncheon in West Des Moines this fall. Each year IAR recognizes a local board with the most innovative idea to promote equal opportunity in housing in their community.
The Iowa Great Lakes Board of Realtors® received the award for sponsoring two contests designed to reach children of all ages with the message of fair housing. The board held a coloring contest for children 10 years and younger, and an essay contest for students in fifth through eighth grades.
"The contests gave children in our community an outlet for creative expression of their current home situation and encouraged them to express their thoughts about the possibility of future home ownership," shares Jodi Tusa, president of the Iowa Great Lakes Board of Realtors®. "The contests also created new partnerships with local businesses, strengthened relationships with area schools, and demonstrated that Realtors® are advocates for home ownership and care about our community," says Tusa.
The National Association of Realtors® and the IAR join with local boards across the nation to promote fair housing to all individuals.
