CLIVE, IA (10/23/2012)(readMedia)-- The Iowa Association of Realtors® (IAR) congratulates Jo Jenkins of Newton, this year's recipient of the O.G. Powell/Joan Ballantyne Distinguished Service Award. The award was presented at the IAR Inaugural Gala held Sept. 26 in Ames.
The O.G. Powell/Joan Ballantyne Distinguished Service Award, which is the highest award given by the Iowa Association of Realtors®, is designed to honor a person who has given long-term and outstanding service to the real estate industry.
Jenkins has been a Realtor® since 1987 and is the Broker of RE/MAX Real Estate Concepts of Newton.
She was named 2009 IAR Realtor® of the Year and served as IAR President in 2006. She was inducted into the prestigious Omega Tau Rho Fraternity in 2008. Jenkins is the 2012 Region 8 Vice President for the National Association of Realtors® (NAR), representing Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Jenkins is also active on her local board, serving as its president and in numerous other leadership roles. She is a two-time recipient of the Newton Realtor® of the Year Award.

Jenkins has earned four of the real estate industry's highest professional designations, including the Accredited Buyer's Representative (ABR), Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager (CRB), Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) and Graduate, Realtor® Institute (GRI).
Jenkins is very active in her community as well. She is the chair of the Kiwanis' Youth Committee and serves on the executive committee for the Newton Development Corporation. She is the past chair of the Newton Chamber of Commerce and Newton United Way. Jenkins is a graduate of Leadership Newton and the Citizen's Police Academy, and also volunteers for Newton Community Schools and Sacred Heart Church.
The award is given in honor of Iowa Realtors® O.G. "Bill" Powell and Joan Ballantyne for their long-term dedication and service to the IAR and the NAR.
