URBANA, OH (09/27/2011)(readMedia)-- Urbana University volleyball's Kelsey Volkmer (Galion, OH/Colonel Crawford HS) and Karla Vogel teamed up for a record-setting night on the road against Notre Dame College on Monday. Vogel assisted Volkmer on a school-record 25 kills as the Blue Knights blasted past the Falcons in a back-and-forth 5-set nailbiter.

Urbana opened the night with a 25-20 win in set #1 against the Falcons, but the home team bounced back with a 25-21 win to even the score at a set apiece. Once again, Urbana grabbed a lead with a tight 25-23 win in the third set, and once again, NDC evened the score with a 25-18 victory in set #4. The fifth and decisive set was never in doubt as the Blue Knights raced out early and took the match with a commanding 15-8 win.

Volkmer, a freshman outside and middle hitter, was on the same page as her junior setter all night long. Vogel set up Volkmer for 25 successful kills, helping her set the Blue Knights' single-match record. The previous record was 21, set by Kelly Boyer back in 2008. Volkmer was also incredibly efficient on the night. In 40 attempts, the collegiate rookie made just 4 hitting errors, and her .525 attack percentage is the 4th highest in a single match since 2008.

Volkmer is currently leading Urbana in kills, attempts, attack percentage and aces. She's second on the squad in aces. The Blue Knights (4-12) hopes to make it two wins in a row on Wednesday night when they travel to the University of Findlay for a 7:30 p.m. match.
