URBANA, OH (11/16/2011)(readMedia)-- Today, members of the NCAA Division II Ohio Independents announced the All-OIC Volleyball Team, and Urbana University's Kelsey Volkmer (Galion, Ohio/Colonel Crawford HS) earned First Team honors. Volkmer was one of two true freshmen, and the lone Blue Knight, to make the eight-player First Team.
In her rookie collegiate season, the 5'11" hitter played all 34 matches, leading Urbana in kills (304) and attack percentage (.241). She finished second at UU during the D-II era in kills and kills per set (2.58). She posted the third highest single season attack percentage. Volkmer's 25 kills in a 5-set win over Notre Dame College in September were a single match school record. In addition to her strong attack, Volkmer also finished with 78 digs, 53 blocks and 15 aces.
In volleyball, the D-II Ohio Independents consist of 7 schools, including Urbana, Walsh, Malone, Notre Dame, Cedarville, Ursuline and Central State.
