URBANA, OH (02/22/2011)(readMedia)-- The same week the Urbana University swim teams finished their first full season of NCAA Division II competition, it was announced that the Blue Knight men's team posted the nation's highest improvement rating, based on a metric developed by Avida Sports in association with www.collegeswimming.com. Behind first-year Head Coach Dave Johnson, Urbana hit a mark 104.9% improvement, just edging D-II's Nova Southeastern, who finished runner-up with a 104.4% improvement rating.

Led by NCAA B-cut qualifiers Said Mosquera (Sunrise, FL/Piper HS) and Paul Miller (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney HS), the Urbana men's team posted its first winning record in school history at 12-10. In the program's previous two seasons combined, the Blue Knights finished 2-28.

Urbana's winning season was capped by a 6th place finish out of 13 teams at the Appalachian Swimming and Diving Conference Championships held at Ohio University this past weekend. The Blue Knights grabbed individual championships in two of the premiere events, the 50 and 100 yard free styles. Miller took the individual title in the 50 free with a school record and NCAA B-cut qualifying time of 21.28 seconds. He also broke a two-year old conference record in prelims of the 100 free, earning the first seed, but he was beaten in the finals by his teammate Mosquera. Mosquera, who finished third in the prelims, won the 100 free in a school record and NCAA B-cut qualifying 46.59 seconds. Mosquera and Miller find out later this week if their times make the cut for the NCAA Division II Swimming Championships held in mid-March in Indianapolis.

In all, the Urbana men's team broke 18 of the school's 19 school records this season, including an incredible 14 this past weekend at the Conference Championships. Mosquera led the way with 7 school records set this weekend, including 3 individual records. Miller was a part of 5, as were Brian Hurley and Alex Parks.
