URBANA, OH (03/30/2011)(readMedia)-- The Blue Knight women's golf team returned to competition in their home state this week at the Ohio Valley University Invitational. Freshman Marie McGinnis (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley HS) turned in her most successful tournament to date as she notched another top-5 finish by setting the school record 36-hole record. McGinnis tied her own single round school record with a 76 to lead the Blue Knights on Day 1. Her score matched the school record she shot in the fall at the Wittenberg Invite. As a team, the Blue Knights finished 8th out of 9 teams, shooting a combined score of 800 on Monday and Tuesday. The champs from Gannon University fired an astonishing 649 over two days of frigid, tough conditions at the Marietta Country Club.

With her record rounds, McGinnis lowered her stroke average to an impressive 82.9 during her freshman season. Finishing behind McGinnis for the Blue Knights were Amanda Rockhold, Katie Rupley, Carli Crawford, and Shelby Link. On Day 1, the Blue Knights shot a 404. After McGinnis, Rockhold led the Blue Knights with a 107. Rupley carded a 108. Crawford shot a 113 in her first round back since a shoulder injury, and Link fired a 115.

Rupley and Crawford also improved on Day 2, carding a 105 and 109, respectively, and Link filled out the Blue Knights' Day 2 scoring with a 118.
